Our mission is to ensure that wellbeing is embedded in everything we do, being championed at all levels and across all functions, and playing a significant role in our culture.

Employee engagement cover

As a tech company in financial services, we can’t lie, we like big numbers. We enjoy an upward trending graph. We live for an exciting stat.

But there are certain numbers which make us particularly happy - those associated with our employee engagement. We use a service called Culture Amp to measure employee engagement (which is another way of saying how satisfied our employees are working at OpenPayd).

Culture Amp asks employees to give a score on around 50 different questions. For Spring 2022, we hit a record high engagement score of 88%. Considering this comes off the back of two difficult years of pandemic adjustments, where the team has grown substantially but had to do so remotely, we could not be more proud.

96% of employees described OpenPayd as a great place to work. This doesn’t mean the work is done – we can still improve and it’s important to build on what we’ve achieved, but we wanted to take note of why we put such a strong focus on our people, and how we’ve managed these engagement scores.

Below we’ve highlighted some of our highest scoring answers and why we’re so passionate about them.

We believe people are more productive and efficient when they have the autonomy to choose the best way of working for themselves, and the results speak for themselves here. We offer flexible working and are always committed to listening to ways we can offer employees more autonomy in their approach to work.

As for sharing ideas, one of our core values is to ‘make your mark’ and we always encourage employees to contribute to the building and scaling of OpenPayd. We are all involved in creating individual goals that contribute to company performance and have freedom in choosing where we’d like to focus the most. Our performance cycles are also reviewed on an annual basis to hear employees' voices and make changes where possible.

Our leaders believe in transparency and being approachable to all colleagues regardless of seniority. We introduced Ask Iana Anything, sessions with the Chief Executive where anyone can ask a question directly on the call. We also encourage feedback and questions via our anonymous feedback platform that are answered every week during the company all hands. We keep our communication channels open and informal and practice an open door policy.

Our values were set bottom up: selected, nurtured and championed by our whole team across the globe. When we were going through our first stage of growth we felt that it was important to have strong pillars to shape our culture on. We travelled between offices and asked all employees: what culture do we really want to build?

The result was five core values: Make your Mark, Find a Better Way, Embrace the Journey, Grow Together and Do What’s Right. These shape our performance and reward programmes and encourage us all to keep going in the same direction.

Our mission is to ensure that wellbeing is embedded in everything we do, being championed at all levels and across all functions, and playing a significant role in our culture. This includes the physical, mental, social and financial wellbeing of our people and recognises that our choice of wellbeing initiatives, standards, individual engagement and management approach all impact our team’s overall wellbeing at work.

We offer a range of employee benefits and organise social activities that help us bond, unwind and promote a healthy lifestyle. These include: flexible core hours, early Friday finish, two months fully remote policy (working from anywhere in the world), extended paternity and maternity cover, extra holidays and sabbatical leave for those who have been with us over 3 years.

We have purposefully put this point last as we feel our high score in motivation comes from the environment we have created at OpenPayd. We will always be committed to making it somewhere which enables you to thrive and be happy doing so!
